Hey Tribe,
Welcome!
There is nothing exotic about addiction.
In fact it may very well be one of the ugliest conditions of the human experience we can fall victim to.
The thing is, while there may be countless conclusions made by professionals as to the causes & effects of addiction, essentially it is an experience that can only be understood by the individual.
So you have to ask yourself every time you give in to the urge of your vice—why the fuck am I doing this?
You have to be brutally honest with yourself too.
No bullshit. No excuses. Really look in the mirror & ask yourself why you continue to engage in a behavior so self-destructive, that it may one day cost you your life.
Now I know that’s a hard thing to do—and it’s not like you’re going to come up with an answer that turns everything around immediately. But it’s a damn good start to figuring out how you’re going to change your ways & fix your situation.
Regardless of what your addiction or addictions may be, if you’re reading this then you’ve taken the first step towards recovery, which is acknowledging you have a problem and further more, that you want to do something about it.
But remember, even though you’ve taken that first step, this is only the beginning. So, however long you’ve been struggling w/addiction, you need be willing to put in the time necessary to overcome it once & for all & move past it for a better life. This is going to be a commitment & a lifelong one at that.
You can’t undo years of behavioral conditioning in a few weeks or even a couple months. So if I were you, I’d get serious about understanding the extreme change your life is about to undergo b/c that’s exactly what this is—a decision to not just form different habits or develop a different mindset, but live a completely different life altogether.
So again, what you need here is brutal honesty b/c up till now, you’ve been lying to yourself, convincing yourself that your bad habits aren’t a big deal and that its okay to indulge in a vice here and there when you need to unwind.
For people who aren’t addicts that may not be that big of a deal, but remember, brutal honesty.
Addiction isn’t normal behavior.
So take a good look at yourself in the mirror and start being honest with where you’re at and what got you here. This is the beginning of a new life and a new you. Say goodbye to the demons in the past b/c they’re not welcome where you’re about to go.
To be continued….
